We grown our strawberries on the annual plasticulture system. In this system we plant new plants each Fall in preparation for a Spring harvest. Variety selection is key and we plant specific varieties developed for this growing system.
Our goal every year is to pick before May 1st and until June 10th.
Overwintering and frost protection.
The best berries are the ones you pick yourself. We go out of our way to plant, grow, and pick the sweetest and freshest berries. We hope you can join us in May and make this part of your family's traditions.
Farmer Russ discusses his favorite fruit.
1. If you're SICK... Don't Pick.
2. Children must stay with you at all times. We are a working farm. We ask you not to let your children run up and down the roads where they may get close to other pickers. Please keep your children away from the deep ponds and the piles of rocks and out of the farm buildings/barns. These are so enticing to kids, but are dangerous. Please attempt to not walk with your kids in the road but rather in the grassy area next to the patch. Not everyone is a careful driver when backing out.
3. Drive Slowly. We know it's enticing to see how fast you can get on our gravel roads but it's dangerous. There are lots of children of all ages that we need to keep safe.
4.Trash. Please be considerate and clean up after yourselves. At the end of the day this is our home and we would throw trash in your front yard.
5. Pets. Please leave them at home. We can only allow service animals.
When you come to our farm it is with the understanding that there are inherent risks from weather, insects, moving vehicles, uneven ground, wildlife, and allergens that Shlagel Farms cannot prevent you from encountering. Your children are welcome but must stay with you at all times and only in the designated areas. The ponds and buildings, woods, piles of dirt, equipment and vehicles are off limits. Please watch your children closely as there are alot of moving cars in the roadway. Try to walk in the grasssy areas to lower the risk. Please leave your pets at home. We follow strict Food Safety precautions to keep all of our produce as safe as possible. You can help us by washing your hands and all of your produce prior to consuming.

Unfortunately no; in order to be in compliance with food safety standards we cannot allow your pets on the farm.
The exception to this are individually trained service animals that perform a specific task or work.
It's your decision. We have available picking flats here on the farm or you can bring your own.
